OK – Its been a couple of days since my last post, but I’ve been a busy little beaver in the background :)

Some of you may notice that the ‘JumpBox’ header is now gone from the top of the screen – This is because I am no longer using that hideously limited system, and have upgraded the hosting of the site to an entirely new machine. I built the webhost from the ground up, installing Ubuntu, mySQL and WordPress manually. Im now using version 2.5-RC1 which is the Release Candidate for the NEXT new version of WordPress. Lots of improvements over the last one, thats for sure.

The main reasoning behind moving the site over to a system that I had built from the ground up, is that the original JumpBox appliance was very limiting in what I could do with the site. As you may have read in an earlier post, I had to cheat to install any new plugins and themes by shutting down the appliance, and starting a new Ubuntu appliance that mounted the data drive of the JumpBox appliance so that I could copy any files across to it. The JumpBox system required payment and registration before you could have shell/command line/ftp access to it, and to remove the JumpBox page header.

The other limiting factor was that it kept running out of memory if I installed too many plugins, and would give errors in odd places – for example, if I was trying to upload an attachment to a post it would just refresh the screen when I clicked ‘upload’ and not attach the file, nor give any errors for that matter.

Also, Chris from cjbonline.org, who is the author of the digg widget I use in the right hand sidebar, has been very helpful in assisting me to get the links to work properly – you can now click on them and go to the articles they reference. Yes, I know that the formatting of it is all over the place, but I’m still working on that :)

Anyway – another update will be forthcoming a little later today- just as a teaser, I have an idea for an audio podcast I’d like to start doing on a regular basis – “but more on that story later…” ;)
